Flip Flopping at Family Dollar to Add to My Operation Christmas Child Stockpile

Flip flops purchased at Family Dollar for Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes.
I love adding bright colors to my shoe boxes!
I saw on the Family Dollar Facebook page that they had a sale on flip flops.  Boys', girls' and women's were just 50 cents a pair.  I know nothing about flip flops or the quality of them, but I decided to go ahead and get some.  Our children's group at church collects items to fill shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child each November and last year the children's minister asked specifically for flip flops, so
some will go to him for that.  I hope to decorate them up a bit, perhaps working something around the plastic tops to make them softer on the children's feet.  I'll share if I do.

Family Dollar also is offering a $5/$25 printable coupon on their website so you can get 50 pairs for $20 or 40 cents each!  The sale and coupon run thru 7/8.  They had hundreds at the one store we stopped at--we didn't make a dent in their stock.

Shoes Can Mean So Much!
These were a pair of flip flops a child

was wearing who received a shoe box.

Wonder if I should go back for more, hmmmm........
Each Saturday Sarah shares our additions to our stockpile.  You can see them all here:  Shoebox Stockpile Saturday ~ Adding to Our Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Stockpile.

  1. Hi Cheryl! I bought a couple of the women's small in prints but was hesitant about other sizes and my store did not have many print styles in children sizes. Wondering what sizes you bought and how those match up with OCC age groups?

  2. Hi, Susan. We got a lot of the women's small--about half of what we got. Then we got a few of each children's sizes (they didn't have a whole lot of the kids so I didn't want to clean them out).

I haven't actually decided on the sizes to box yet. My daughter's work with the AWANA program at church and they will be checking them against their kids' feet when it starts back :-). We are using the women's small for 10 - 14 year old boys and girls (depending on the color).

We also have dozens we picked up at Dollar General at 30 cents each this week. I'll be sharing that trip soon. They had LOTS of boys colors and children's sizes. Since I buy a lot to give our children's ministry pastor for packing with the kids I am having a ball buying so many since he asks for these specifically.

Oh, and I hope to decorate up many of the plain ones--I know I can't do them all, but at least some.

  3. Oh, but for a general rule, I would choose to err on the large size in the boxes knowing they could at least grow into them. But I would think the child's Small--2-4 year olds, child's large--5-9 year olds, women's small--10-14 year old. But since my daughters will be checking them out closer with their AWANA kids we may be changing that.

  4. Thanks for the input Cheryl! I will be interested in what your daughter's research shows up. And I could check with the kids I teach in Sunday School. We have a station rotation program so I see grades 1 through 4 over the course of a month.

  5. I was in an Old Navy and checked with a boy and his mom...he was 9 and wore a size 5. I agree with you that larger is better than smaller so at FD I took the child's medium for the 2-4 age group..and then all the same sizes as you did.

  6. Thanks for that input, Mary. I was buying more at DG today and tried to find a child to ask his parent, but there were none in the store.
