Crochet V-STITCH & RIBBON TODDLER BLANKET 33” Square
G hook
5 Yards of 1/2” satin ribbon
Instructions:
These will be simple instructions, not in great detail. Elizabeth just stitched and made it work as
she went. She did not keep track of the
number of stitches as she did not plan to make another one but wanted to share
the basic instructions in case anyone wanted to try it.
Chain until measures the width you want it – Elizabeth
did 29”. Add a couple of extra chains to
be sure the number is coordinated with the pattern [sets of 4 plus 3 stitches
(and an original 2 for the first dc]—you can undo them if there are too many, I
learned this trick and always add a few extra chains in case I count
wrong.
Note: To make V-stitch:
double crochet, chain 1, double crochet in same stitch.
Rows (as many as needed for the size you want): Work one double crochet, ch 1, skip next 2
stitches, work v-stitch in next st, [ch 1, skip next 3 sts, work v-stitch in
next st,] across, ch 1, skip next two stitches double crochet in last
chain. Ch 2 turn. NOTE:
In subsequent rows place the V-stitches within the V-stitches in the row
below.
Edging
Note: The stitch
count may not be exact in each row, Elizabeth just added or skipped a stitch in
a round if necessary to make it work.
Round 1: Single Crochet around (corner—3 sc I corner
st)
Round 2: dc, ch
1 around (corner—3 dc in corner st)
Round 3:
V-stitch, ch 1 pattern as in body of blanket (v-stitch worked as dc,
ch3, dc in corner)
Round 4: 1 shell
st in each V-stitch of round 3 (shell stitch is dc, ch1, dc, ch1, dc)
Cut ribbon in 4 even pieces. Weave in and out of round 2. Tie bows in corners, sew the center of bows
so they cannot come undone. Finish ends
so they will not unravel—heat with flame or use fray check.

ReplyDeleteThere is a church that packs small toddler quilts...they always attempt to pair them with a coordinating book and stuffed animal (like all monkey themed, etc.).
What a lovely new way to pack a box. I love seeing what other people do, it inspires me.
Thanks, Mary, for the kind remarks. Theme boxes are so fun to make. Right now Elizabeth is making an ensemble for a little baby doll--diaper bag, sleeping bag, little teddy bear, block, headband, etc.
ReplyDeleteWe got some monkey flip flops so I can't wait to do a monkey themed one. I got some fabric the other day with monkeys for some drawstring bags.
It is fun to see what others are doing--so many creative ideas. I know I put a larger variety in my boxes now after reading so many great ideas.
I'm not crafty by any means but do appreciate those who have the talent. That is a very pretty blanket and some toddler will be very happy to receive it.
