year's boxes!
While shopping with Sarah for a Thanksgiving care package for my nephew in the Navy she stumbled upon a great clearance deal at Family Dollar that got "the ball rolling" on our Shoe Box stockpile for next year. They had a sign up that clearance items were an additional 50% off. These balls were $1.99 each regular priced and we "caught" them for just 30 cents each! A savings of 85%. They are the perfect size for a child's hand and for packing into a shoe box.
The two items my husband insists go into each box we pack are a ball and a flashlight (with extra batteries of course). Finding small, sturdy, inexpensive balls is always one of the hardest for me, so I am thrilled to have this start in that department! And my goal is to average just $.50 per item I tuck inside the box, so these coming in at $.30 leaves me some wiggle room on another item for these six boxes.
Each Saturday Sarah shares our additions to our stockpile. You can see them all here: Shoebox Stockpile Saturday ~ Adding to Our Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Stockpile.

Great find! I have also started my OCC shopping for next year. My local Walmart has girls' jump ropes on sale for $.50 each.
Great price on the jump ropes, Vanessa! Glad to hear others are shopping for next year during collection week :-).
Old Navy has great bouncy balls for twenty-five cents.
I have heard that, Tricia. Unfortunately no Old Navy near me -- we have very few shopping opportunities in my town.
