I love to include tote bags in my shoeboxes so the child can carry their new goodies easily. I decided a few weeks ago that I'd make drawstring bags just large enough to tuck the shoe box inside -- that way they can carry all their goodies with or
without the shoe box. As you can see, I started with my scraps.
EDITING: I've written up instructions on how to make the drawstring bags. Find them here:
Scraps from Pillow Case Style Dresses
Aqua, lime green, orange and pink fabrics. |
This matches a patchwork apron I made for a shoe box. |
Scraps from My Daughter's Projects
My daughter recovered some patio furniture for a friend and had this heavy duty fabric left. I pieced together all the pieces and it was the perfect size. I added the bright pink bias tape scraps in honor of my mother-in-law. She loved green and pink together.
This heavy linen was leftover from a dress my daughter made. I had enough to patch two sideways pieces on either side of the center panel. I added the ribbon over the seems to separate the directional differences in the design using the same ribbon as the drawstring.
Unloved Fabric -- Donation that wasn't quite suitable for a pillow case dress.
This fabric was a just a little too "see thru" to make a dress for a little girl. It was perfect for a drawstring bag and I love I had this ribbon for the drawstring with the pink/yellow/rose combination to match it so perfectly.
To take up less room in the shoe box, I tuck them inside a sandwich zipper bag and squeeze out all the air.
My next project is toy sacks! Dozens & Dozens!

Do you have a pattern for this?
ReplyDeleteHi! Thanks for stopping by. I do not have a pattern. I was thinking about writing one and posting it if anyone is interested. Do you think it would be worthwhile to write it out?
ReplyDeleteYes it would definitely be beneficial to have a pattern here, especially for those who are seasonal sewers.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I'll work one up soon and post it. I want to figure out how anyone could easily take any size shoe box and make one to carry it in.
ReplyDeleteWould love a pattern. Could get some ladies from our church on this one. We pack shoe boxes in November and could have many sewed up by then. I have so much material and need to get some of it used! Please post pattern soon so we can get on this one. Shirley Cole
ReplyDeleteI also hope you put up a pattern. Found you via OCC's post on FB. Looking for a fairly easy bag for girls in a sewing club to make. Please let me know if you post a pattern.
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE a pattern!

ReplyDeleteOkay, everyone, I will try to get one written up this week. I'll have to actually make some more up to figure exactly how I did it and to photograph the steps. Thanks for your interest.
ReplyDeleteOh please post the instructions! These are too cute and would love to make some for the shoe boxes.
ReplyDeleteI too hope that someone makes the pattern available.

THANKS.
I also would love a pattern. I just started making pillow case dresses and was thinking about making small tote bags from scraps after making Minkys. These will go into shoe boxes for pencils, etc
